Just Breathe and Stop Stressing

It sounds like such a simple concept, but no one has mastered it. Something that is supposed to be automated.  Something that is supposed to be readily accessible.  Something that is free and doesn’t cost us a dime, yet we still don’t do it.  And that something is to breathe. Shallow breaths are to blame.  Why do we breathe so shallowy? (Is shallowy even a word?)  There are various reasons.

  1. Stress from work
  2. Stress from personal life
  3. Stress from fear
  4. Stress from chemicals (meds, the air you breathe, the food you eat)
  5. Stress from physical (lack of sleep, over-exertion and long hours in a day, over-training in the gym)

Shallow breathing is very common and very tight upper traps and neck muscles are the result.  Everyone is so tense in their shoulders that if you were to massage someone’s shoulders, you would feel and hear cracklies.  It is so common and stress is so common.  Why aren’t people addressing this?

If you are reading, you must start addressing this.  It isn’t good for you. It is aging you, destroying your health and ultimately forcing you to live outside of your body. You are the only one who can change this.

Below is a video of myself and Dr Joe Turcillo, MD, FACP a dear friend and highly respected doctor. He has seen it all and much of what he’s seen in his time is avoidable.  He speaks about the young woman and the affect of stress on her body.  But do you know that stress and shallow breathing can cause the following immediate complications in everyone of all populations???:

  1. Feeling faint
  2. Feeling light headed
  3. Chest pains
  4. Headaches
  5. Tiredness
  6. Weak
  7. Foggy
  8. Hungry
  9. Anxious
  10. Moody

Those are just a few immediate symptoms and if you are feeling them, you must must must quit stressing.  Start with deep breathing. Download Pandora to your computer and listen to yoga music, calming music, chill out music, classical music to name a few.  Practice deep breathing.  There is a great activity in my book, Breaking the Chains of Obesity, tool #7.  Read it.  It can definitely relax you.  Other places to search for guided meditation is on youtube.  Type in “guided meditation” and you should see a whole world of options.  Either way, get started.  Change your mind and your body will follow.  A calm mind is a pain free and tension free body.  You deserve to live in an optimal body.  Start now.
