Pumpkin turkey gumbo-Fast Food Friday

Hello and happy Friday!  I hope my fella West Coast people are staying dry from these downpours.  Otherwise, stay wet as you continue sweating through an amazing Friday morning workout!

I usually provide you with a Fast Food restaurant menu selection on Fridays, but for today, I decided to provide you with a fast recipe for your Friday which is even better.  Tis’ the season to really get into the habit of putting your health as number one.  Between flu, colds, and shorter days, it is quite easy to go through the motions of life, neglecting your body, making you quite susceptible to getting sick.  Eating healthy can boost your immune system where on the flip side, eating poorly (high glycemic carbs as listed in my book) can make you sick.   Part of Breaking the Chains of Obesity is buckling down and using the tangible tools that exist for you.  Every time I write a post, I hope that you and others use these tools to guide you through your weight loss journey. As always, I welcome your feedback if you need additional tools for support.

So, here it is: Friday’s Pumpkin Turkey Gumbo to provide you with that holiday taste:

Ingredients:

  1. 1 package of Empire lean turkey meat
  2. 1 can of organic pumpkin puree
  3. 1 can of black beans
  4. 1 bag of organic broccoli
  5. 1 bag of mini zucchini
  6. 1 bag of organic kale
  7. 1 1/2 cups of cubed butternut squash
  8. 1 small container of organic vegetable broth
  9. 3 tbsp of fresh chopped garlic to line the pan
  10. 4 tbsp of olive oil

Dash of crushed red pepper, minced garlic, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, cinnamon (optional), saffron

You may buy all these ingredients at Trader Joe’s.  Just open the contents and pour into the pan.  I always start off with the garlic and oil.  I then add the turkey meat until it’s 96% fully cooked in small little pieces.  I add the spices to the turkey meat directly and then I add everything else in.  This dish serves 6.  It is amazing.  It is quick.  It is healthy!  Bon apetit! xo JZ
